TEMA RELEASES FIRST SEVERE WEATHER FLASH REPORT AFTER TORNADO
KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- The State Emergency Operations Center in Nashville maintains a Level 4 – Elevated status to support local requests following Thursday’s severe weather in Middle and East Tennessee and to continue Tropical Storm Helene recovery.
- TEMA has deployed personnel at the request of impacted counties and is coordinating with local officials to assess damages and ensure life safety needs are met.
- Emergency Services Coordinators (ESCs) representing state departments and partner agencies are monitoring the situation and standing by to aid local jurisdictions.
CURRENT SITUATION
A severe weather system impacted Middle and East Tennessee on Thursday, February 6, 2025. At this time, counties reporting impacts include Fentress, Grainger, Jackson, Morgan, Overton, Putnam, and Sevier counties. TEMA has deployed personnel at the request of the counties and is coordinating with local officials to assess damages and ensure needs are met. The National Weather Service is preparing to survey potential tornado locations.
POWER OUTAGES & UTILITIES
As of 9:00 a.m. CST on February 7, there are 2,600 reports of power outages statewide.
TENNESSEE HIGHWAY PATROL
Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) is providing assistance with law enforcement responsibilities.
TENNESSEE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
- The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is continuing to monitor road conditions across the state.
- TDOT Maintenance crews are currently out working to clear trees and clean up debris.
- Crews are driving all state routes and replacing signs that were damaged as well.
- Check road conditions and closures on TDOT’s Smartway map.
PROTECTIVE ACTIONS/KEY MESSAGES
- Do not enter damaged buildings or hazardous locations.
- Do not drive through flooded roadways and walkways.
- Avoid downed power lines.
