TENNESSEE CROP AND CATTLE REPORT – JULY 29, 2018
CROP REPORT
The crops are in mostly good condition, though rains have been spotty even within counties, causing top and sub-soil moisture levels to start decreasing. The tremendous amount of rain earlier in the season has helped with current soil moisture levels. Some tobacco is starting to be cut and pastures are in mostly good condition. There were 5.4 days suitable for field work. Topsoil moisture was 5 percent very short, 21 percent short, and 69 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture was 5 percent very short, 20 percent short, 73 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus.
Corn – 34% excellent, 50% good, 11% fair, 4% poor and 1% very poor
Tobacco – 12% excellent, 72% good, 15% fair and 1% poor
Cotton – 28% excellent, 62% good, 9% fair and 1% poor
Pasture – 12% excellent, 51% good, 27% fair, 9% poor and 1% very poor
Soybeans – 26% excellent, 58% good, 15% fair and 1% poor
Hay – 12% excellent, 53% good, 30% fair, 4% poor and 1% very poor
CATTLE REPORT
Crossville, Tennessee Stockyard weighted average report for Saturday, July 28, 2018:
Cattle receipts: 656 last week: 550 last year: 644 compared to last week, feeder steers 2.00-5.00 lower; feeder bulls steady to 7.00 higher; feeder heifers under 550 lbs. 5.00-7.00 lower, over 550 lbs. Steady to 4.00 higher; slaughter cows steady to 2.00 lower; slaughter bulls mostly steady. Feeder: 530 slaughter: 54 replacement: 72 slaughter cows made up 7 percent of the offering, slaughter bulls 3 percent, and feeders 90 percent. The feeder supply included 31 percent steers, 44 percent heifers, and 25 percent bulls. Nearly 30 percent of the run weighed over 600 lbs.
