TENNESSEE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION PASSES EMERGENCY RULES IN RESPONSE TO CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK

The Tennessee State Board of Education passes emergency rules yesterday in response to COVID-19 including:

  • High school seniors will only be required 20 credit hours now to graduate, instead of 22.
  • For seniors who haven’t taken the SAT or ACT yet — that requirement is waived.
  • The emergency rules also changed requirements for graduating seniors. The grades that seniors had on March 20, 2020 is the lowest their grades can be. Students can improve those grades, they just can’t go backwards from where those grades were at on March 20, 2020.

The board also putting policies like teacher evaluations and required student attendance on hold for now.
