THREE KAYAKERS RESCUED IN SWIFT WATERS FROM FLOOD IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

The Cumberland County Rescue Squad was dispatched around 12:30 this afternoon to the area of Creston Road and Fredonia Road to help three kayakers who were trapped in fast moving current. The three managed to work their way to trees and climbed up above the rising water. A fourth person with the party was able to call for help. The Cumberland County Fire Department, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department and Crossville Fire Department also responded to assist in the operation. Two rafts were deployed at the dragstrip to head to and down the 400 yards of swift water to access the three patients in the tree. Around 2 p.m. today, the three kayakers were rescued and were safe. They were brought back to the set up area at the dragstrip to be evaluated by medics as a precaution.

This is the second rescue operation for the Cumberland County Rescue Squad in the past 5 hours. Crews responded this morning to an area off Genesis Road to rescue a man and dog trapped in a camper from fast rising flood waters.
