THREE MISSING KAYAKERS RESCUED IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY
A multi-agency rescue operation to find three missing kayakers in northeastern Cumberland County this weekend was a success. The Cumberland County Rescue Squad, along with the sheriff’s office, Tennessee Highway Patrol, EMA, EMS and TWRA, started to look for the three, believed to be locals, in the area between Antioch and the Devil’s Breakfast Table in Catoosa late last night. Officials say the kayaks overturned in the Rattlesnake Rapids leaving them stranded. Around midnight, the three were located by a helicopter very close to where two kayakers were found just over a month ago. Crews hiked down Daddy’s Creek Canyon and escorted the three out safely and without injury just after daylight this morning. The rescue squad advises the public this area is not beginners’ rapids. Officials added any trip along that stretch of water should be planned thoroughly and life vests should be used at all times.
