THREE VEHICLE ACCIDENT BACKS UP TRAFFIC ON INTERSTATE 40

A three vehicle accident in Cumberland County late yesterday afternoon (Friday, September 22, 2017) resulted in no injuries but backed traffic up for a while. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a 2013 Kia Rio driven by Theresa Hanks of Knoxville, a 2000 Honda Accord operated by 50-year-old Carlos Morales-Velasques of Crossville and a 2014 Hyundai Sonata driven by 26-year-old Shelby Collis of Loudon were all traveling west on Interstate 40 at the 316 mile marker when a tire on Hanks vehicle blew out. The tire landed on the interstate. Morales-Velasques took evasive action to avoid hitting the tire and as a result lost control and collided with Collis. All three drivers were restrained at the time of the accident. Traffic was backed up while the accident scene was cleaned up.
