TODAY IS ELECTION DAY: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

It’s Primary Election day today in Cumberland County. Early voting ended last Thursday with a total 5,238 votes cast.  4,995 voted in the Republican Primary and 243 in the Democrat Primary.  There are no contested races in the Democrat Primary but there are two on the ballot for a future run in the August General Election against their Republican opponent, 3rd District School Board and Register of Deeds. There are also four Independent candidates not on the Primary Ballot but will be on the General Election Ballot in August for the offices of General Sessions Judge, Circuit Court Judge-13th Judicial District, School Board District 5 and School Board District 7.

Polls close tonight at 7pm Central, however, if there are voters in line to vote at 7pm they will be allowed to vote.  Also, absentee ballots will be taken up to 7pm and will be delivered by the Postal Service to the Election Commission office. Some 1,000 voters are voting in their newly assigned district and were mailed a card directing them to their new precinct locations by the Election Commission.
