TRAFFIC STOP NETS MARIJUANA, DRUG PARAPHERNALIA

Saturday afternoon, Cumberland County deputies doing radar scans on Interstate 40 westbound clocked 21-year-old William Keith Hayes of Crossville doing 83 miles per hour in a 70-mile-per-hour zone. When Hayes exited at Peavine Road, deputies conducted a traffic stop.

Hayes admitted having pot in the car. Deputies deployed K-9 Niko for a sniff test. The dog found a glass jar with marijuana and a silver grinder. Hayes claimed ownership of both.

Hayes was charged with simple possession and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia; he was placed under $11,000 bond and has a court date March 18.
