TRAFFIC STOP TURNS INTO HEROIN BUST IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

Expired tags turned out to be the least of a local man’s worries Friday (May 18, 2018) after a routine traffic stop reportedly resulted in the discovery of heroin. Sheriff’s deputies stopped 18-year-old Sebastian Michael Melder of Crossville and smelled marijuana coming from his Nissan Xterra. A search of Melder yielded a baggie containing a brown sandy substance. A search of the vehicle netted leafy green matter, a glass smoking pipe, rolling papers and a marijuana grinder. Melton’s passenger, 19-year-old Collin Selby, admitted ownership of the pot; Melton said the rest of the items were his. Both were taken to Cumberland County jail. Selby was charged with simple possession; Melton was charged with manufacture, sale or delivery of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
