TRAFFIC STOP UNCOVERS FAKE CIA BADGES

On Saturday, Deputy Morgan Alvarez with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for the passenger side brake light not working. The driver was identified as Steven Bader from Georgia, and Deputy Alvarez reported smelling a strong alcoholic odor coming from either Bader or his vehicle.

Bader was asked to step out of the vehicle, and Bader said he couldn’t drink due to his “being on active duty”. The deputy asked Bader his rank, to which he said he couldn’t say. Bader also couldn’t say where he worked or what he does but then stated he works with the CIA. During a consent search of the vehicle, Corporal R. Ashburn located 3 CIA badges in a gun case in the backseat, later confirmed to be fake. When asked about the badges, Bader said they were his identifications, but still couldn’t give any supervisor’s information for verification.

Two of the badges had numbers on them and when asked what his badge number was, Bader said he purposely does not remember them, so he does not have to worry about telling anyone them. He stated no one knows where he works because it is all confidential.

Bader was placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland County Jail for booking. He was charged with Criminal Impersonation.
