The Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to a vehicle accident Wednesday on Highway 72 in Roane County. Troopers say a 2006 Peterbilt tractor-trailer operated by 39-year-old Edsell Burns Jr. of Newport was traveling near the intersection of Laurel Bluff Road. He was negotiating a curve when the tires went off the asphalt into a steep ditch. The vehicle overturned on its side. Burns and a passenger in the cab escaped injury. The accident resulted in traffic backups for a couple of hours.
