TWO ARRESTED IN ATTEMPTED A1 STORAGE BURGLARY
On March 27, 2025, Deputy Shawn Aytes was conducting an extra patrol at A-1 Storage located on Hwy 70 East when he observed a black Dodge Avenger backed up to a storage unit with two individuals inside. Deputy Aytes requested assistance and approached the vehicle, noticing an open storage unit with holes in the walls. The two individuals were identified as Michael Vanlandingham and Haylee Bullard, who were then asked to exit the vehicle and were placed in handcuffs.
Haylee Bullard stated that she rented unit #1, which was checked by Deputy Aytes and later swept by Deputy Caleb Charles for additional occupants. During the sweep, Deputy Charles found a 12-inch bread knife covered in sheetrock residue in plain sight. Haylee admitted her fingerprints would be on the knife. A consent search of the unit revealed 30 glass pipes commonly used for smoking narcotics.
Investigation showed holes cut in the sheetrock from unit 4 into units 3 and 5, and another hole in unit #7, indicating unauthorized entry. The A-1 Storage manager estimated the damage at approximately $2,000 and planned to notify the affected renters. Michael Vanlandingham and Haylee Bullard were arrested and charged with five counts of vandalism each, three counts of burglary each, and possession of drug paraphernalia. They were transported to the CCSO jail for booking.
The scene was processed for fingerprints by Deputies Charles and Early, but none were found. Photographs of the scene and tools used in the burglary were taken and added to the report. Young’s Towing removed the vehicle from the property, and A-1 Storage is requesting restitution for the damages.
