TWO CHARGED WITH VEHICLE THEFT FOLLOWING TRAFFIC STOP
Two people from Loudon County are facing charges after a traffic stop in Roane County. Early yesterday morning (Thursday, August 10, 2017), a deputy pulled over a vehicle heading south on Highway 27 in Rockwood for tail lights not working. A check on the tag came back to another type of vehicle that was reported stolen out of Knoxville. According to the arrest report, 39-year-old Dawn Marie Powell of Lenoir City told the officer she borrowed the vehicle from a woman only known by her first name from Merchants Drive in Knoxville a few days prior. Powell could not give the officer the woman’s last name, phone number or address. Powell and a passenger in the vehicle, 35-year-old William Nathan Morgan of Lenoir City, were both charged with theft of a motor vehicle. Powell was additionally charged with driving on a revoked/suspended license. Both were transported to the Roane County jail.
