Cumberland County deputies responded just before 6 p.m. yesterday to a home on the 3300 block of Sparta Highway for a domestic altercation involving a firearm.

The arrest report states a male victim in his 50s got into an argument involving 74-year-old Glenn Gene Bradshaw and 77-year-old Katherine Anne Barnwell of Spring City.

Deputies say Bradshaw pulled a 12-gauge shotgun out of the couch cushions and put it beside him. The victim grabbed the firearm attempting to get the weapon away from Bradshaw. The victim told officers Bradshaw yelled to Barnwell to get the shotgun and shoot the victim.

Barnwell grabbed the firearm.

The victim immediately put his hand where the hammer was on the shotgun attempting to keep it from going off. Barnwell allegedly pulled the trigger causing the hammer to go forward slamming into the hand of the victim between his thumb and index finger. The victim was able to get the shotgun, went outside, and busted the firearm on a retaining wall. He threw part of the shotgun across a fence and called 911.

The report states a deputy observed a laceration on the hand of the victim about the width of a shotgun hammer.

Because of the injury to the victim and inconsistent stories told by the two suspects, officers arrested Bradshaw and Barnwell for aggravated assault.
