TWO TAILGATES STOLEN, EIGHT HOURS AND HALF A MILE APART

Shortly after 10 Monday morning, Crossville police were called to the Pilot gas station on Genesis Road for a report of a stolen 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 tailgate. The victim, an employee of the station, said his supervisor informed him his tailgate was missing. When the two went to review the surveillance footage, they saw a man in a baseball cap, orange T-shirt and tan pants walk up to the truck and lower the tailgate; but “all video footage at the gas station crashed at that moment.”

However, a woman at the scene said she saw a man loading the tailgate into a white sedan – but that was all the information she had.

Then, just after 6:15, city units were called to the 2000 block of Genesis Road, where another man reported the tailgate from his 2007 Toyota Tundra stolen. He said he’d parked his vehicle at a shut-down gas station around 5 in the morning and when he got back at 6 p.m., the tailgate was gone. There was evidence of attempts to access the locked toolbox, but nothing was taken. No video surveillance footage for the area was available.

An investigation is ongoing into the two thefts.
