RABID RACCOON DISPATCHED ON TENTH STREET
If you thought you heard a gunshot in the vicinity of the 200 block of Tenth Street yesterday morning, you weren’t hearing things. Shortly after 8:30 a.m., Crossville police responded to Good Samaritans for a report of a rabid raccoon on site. Staff had trapped the animal under a garbage can.
According to the incident report, the raccoon appeared ill, disoriented and sluggish, and had a white glaze to its eyes.
The responding officer moved the ailing critter out back to the wood line and fired one shot in a safe direction to “neutralize” the animal.
The officer brought the deceased to the animal shelter and disposed of it as staff there directed.
