U.S. POST OFFICE TO RAISE RATES, INCLUDING POSTAGE STAMP PRICE

The U.S. Postal Service plans to raise the price of a first-class postage stamp to 58 cents, from 55 cents, to offset falling revenues as volumes drop. Officials say in the past 10 years, mail volume has declines 28% and continues downward.

Prices for postcards, international letters and other services will increase as well.

Rates on flat mail, such as larger envelopes or catalogues, will go up 16 percent.

Rates for local periodicals will go from 11 to 12 cents, and for nonlocal from 27 to 30 cents.

The rate for postcards will rise from 36 to 40 cents.

Media and library mail now at $3.71 will be $4.11.

Money orders will rise from $1.30 to $1.45.

It will go into effective August 29, 2021.
