UPDATE ON ROANE COUNTY ROAD CLOSURES
Old Airport Road on Rockwood Mountain, connecting Morgan and Cumberland counties, could be closed for months, according to Roane County Road Superintendent Dennis Ferguson. A recent tour of damaged roads in the county revealed what looks more like earthquake damage than rainfall damage. County Executive Ron Woody said he expects the state and federal governments to pitch in and assist with funding for repairs, but that could take weeks to come through.
Other roads affected in Harriman and Rockwood are Riggs Chapel and Tanglewood roads, as well as Winston Chapel Road in Rockwood. Those roads are still closed to traffic; status of the closures will be updated on the Highway Department’s Facebook page.
