Former Roane County Commissioner Jerry Goddard passed away last Thursday at the age of 72. He was laid to rest at Roane Memorial Gardens in Rockwood this weekend with honors as local fire-department personnel stretched the American flag over the entrance to his final resting place.

“Jerry Goddard was a friend and mentor to me,” Commission Chairman Randy Ellis said. “Jerry loved his community and Roane County.”

Goddard spent 20 years on the Roane County Commission. His tenure ended in 2014 when he didn’t seek re-election.

“He was a real good commissioner, very dedicated,” Roane County Executive Ron Woody said.

Goddard lived in Harriman and had represented District 2 on the Roane County Commission.
