UPDATE ON SEARCH FOR PLANE CRASH SITE IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY – 3:25 P.M. CENTRAL

As of 3:25 p.m. central this afternoon (Tuesday, May 25, 2021), Cumberland County first responders continue their search for a possible plane crash site. The Gulfstream American AA-5A four seater took off from the airport around 8 this morning and disappeared off radar shortly after. It was later determined it was pinged in the area of Hinch Mountain as the pilot was attempting to circle to possibly return to the airport. A command post was set up at Linary Church of Christ off of Old Highway 28 near the mountain. It’s not clear how many people may have been aboard other than the pilot. Sheriff Casey Cox said spring foliage from the trees is thick and making seeing wreckage from the air very challenging. Cumberland County EMA said this afternoon they are trying to request a military plane equipped with night search equipment to help should it go into the evening. More information will be released at a later time.
