UT MEDICAL CENTER UNVEILS NEW PAT SUMMIT CLINIC

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The legacy of Lady Vols coach Pat Summitt lives on in the newly dedicated Pat Summitt Clinic at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. UT hosted an invitation only event Sunday, January 15 to cut the ribbon on the new clinic. In addition were family members, Lady Vol members and those who had worked to fund the clinic. Coach Summitt was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2011; she and son, Tyler, shortly after created the Pat Summitt Foundation. That foundation teamed up with the medical center to open the clinic. On hand for the ribbon cutting were Tyler Summitt, as well as Pat Summitt Foundation Board Chair James Haslam, II, Lady Vol sports leaders Joan Cronan and Holly Warlick, and the clinic’s Medical Director, Dr. Roberto Fernandez. UT Medical Center already treats around 3,000 Alzheimer’s patients each year. It hopes to be able to eventually accept double that number of patients. The newly designed facility includes attention to design details such as neutral colors, custom lighting, and minimal noise. The Peyton and Ashley Manning Lobby offers some patient privacy during the registration process. A public open house of the Pat Summitt Clinic is scheduled for Sunday, January 29 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm.
