UT STUDENT COLLAPSES AND LATER PASSES AWAY AT WEEKEND BOXING EVENT

Knoxville Police say a University of Tennessee student died after collapsing during Boxing Weekend. Joseph Tanner Wray was participating in the Ace Miller Boxing Tournament. According to reports, Wray was moving to sit down on his stool inside the ring, when he passed-out. He was transported to UT Medical Center where he was pronounced dead-on-arrival. Afterward, officials announced the tournament to be closed for the remainder of the day. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death. Wray’s mother, Amy Schisler, said he was a junior at UT and was earning a degree in aerospace engineering. Each year, about 55 boxers compete in 11 different weight classes over the course of a weekend.
