Beloved husband, father, and son, Virgil Wheeler Thompson, age 39, of Crossville, went home to be with Jesus Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina.

He was born February 24, 1980 in Crossville, son of James E. Thompson & Linda (Wheeler) Thompson.

In his early years, he enjoyed roller skating at Woodmere Skating Center; being a lifeguard and waterfront director at Cumberland Mountain State Park pool; and spending time with his family and friends.

He went to South Cumberland Elementary School where he won trophies in chess and was student council president. At Cumberland County High School he was awarded Mr. CCHS as well as Junior Class Vice President by his peers with the class of 1998.

After graduating Roane State Community College, Virgil graduated The University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He also attended Law School at Cal Northern School of Law in Chico, California.

He was owner-operator of Roane County Skating Center in Rockwood and worked for many years with his father at First Crossville Title Company. Most recently, he obtained his State Title Insurance License and became a Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 31 Mediator.

He is survived by his wife: Jennifer (Gardner) Thompson; sons: Landon, 12, and Virgil, 4; and parents: James and Linda Thompson.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Carl A. Thompson, Ola Dell (Scarborough) Thompson, Virgil Wheeler Jr., Sara (Bayless) Wheeler Panter, and Leighton H. Panter.

Virgil’s life will be celebrated with services at Central Baptist Church at 1346 S Main Street in Crossville Saturday, February 29, 2020. Visitation will be held from 1 until 3 p.m. with services at 3 p.m. by Pastor Eddie Davis officiating. Interment in Crossville City Cemetery to follow.
