Wilma Lee Sutton Moore

August 17, 1930 – February 17, 2025

Wilma was born in Haywood County, North Carolina but lived the majority of her life in Morgan County, Tennessee. Early in her marriage to life-long husband Robert Moore, she ran a boarding house for loggers as they moved from tract to tract across North Carolina into Tennessee, eventually landing in Morgan County. After Robert left logging to take a job with the State of Tennessee Road Department, Wilma shifted to taking care of children in her home and did so for many years. The number of children she cared for is too many to know for sure. What is certain is that all those children lucky enough to know her love and care continue to cherish those years well into adulthood. Wilma also loved going to the flea market and haggling over price and quality. She was known to drive a hard bargain. To nearly everyone, she was known as Mamaw Moore. She helped all that she could in her life. Her country biscuits and fried potatoes served every Sunday after church were legendary. She will be missed dearly.

She was preceded in death by Robert H. Moore. She is survived by her children: Lucy (Forrest) Stewart and Gerald (Katrina) Moore; grandchildren: Robert (Debra) Stewart, Renee Moore, Melinda (Chad) Ward, Maegan (Aaron) Mooneyhan, and Zach (Caitlyn) Moore; great-grandchildren: Chelsea (Nick) Martin, Jacob Thomas, Nate Stewart, Gracie Mooneyhan, Luke Ward, Marlie Mooneyhan, Eli Ward, Alex Ward, Stella Moore, and Myles Moore; and great great-grandson Cyrus Martin.

Visitation and informal Celebration of Life will be open to all between 1:00 – 2:00pm, February 18th, 2025 at Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg, TN. A brief graveside service follows thereafter at Morgan Memorial Gardens, 646 Potters Falls Road.
