WIND TURBINE STUDY COMMITTEE HOLDS FIRST MEETING IN NASHVILLE

The subject of whether or not wind turbines should be built in Cumberland County has been in dispute for some time. Now a joint study committee relating to the subject has held their first meeting in Nashville. Senator Paul Bailey, a member of the committee, sponsored a bill, along with Rep. Cameron Sexton, placing a year-long moratorium on building wind turbines in Tennessee. That bill was passed earlier this year, suspending the matter until July 1st, 2018 when the committee is scheduled to submit a proposal for rules and regulations regarding such projects. Sen. Bailey commented that “I don’t think any one of us are just absolutely opposed to wind turbines, but we are concerned with the placement of such wind turbines on top of our beautiful mountains in Tennessee.” Apex Energy, the company originally linked to the concept, has since pulled out of the project amid protests.
