WOMAN ARRESTED IN CROSSVILLE AFTER ERRATIC BEHAVIOR, NEAR MISSES WITH TRAFFIC
On December 20, 2025, around 10:50 PM, Deputy Benjamin Broderdorf of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office observed a woman, later identified as 40-year-old Candice D. Kidwell from Knoxville, behaving erratically near the intersection of Highway 127 South and Miller Avenue Bypass.
She was standing in a ditch, pointing and moving unpredictably, prompting the deputy to initiate a welfare check. As he approached, Kidwell panicked, sprinted across the four-lane highway—nearly being struck by a truck twice—and ignored verbal commands to stop. After a brief foot pursuit, the deputy used control techniques to take her into custody for safety reasons. Kidwell appeared confused, muttered incoherently, and had dilated eyes suggestive of impairment.
She initially provided only her first name but was identified by a Crossville police officer from a prior incident. While being placed in the patrol vehicle, she resisted by thrashing and kicking, requiring assistance from other officers. Kidwell was arrested on-view for public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and resisting stop, frisk, halt, or search, then transported to the Cumberland County Justice Center for booking without further incident.
