WOODS, SR. INDICTED BY GRAND JURY FOR FELONY MURDER

A Roane County Grand Jury met this week and heard evidence in a case involved the death of 78-year-old Donald Woods of 836 Hen Valley Road in Oliver Springs. His body was found by police last Saturday. The victim was discovered handcuffed on the floor of his bedroom at the residence with yellow Dollar General shopping bags next to him that had apparently been placed over his head and duct-taped around his neck.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was requested by District Attorney General Russell Johnson to work the scene along with police. Officers interviewed various individuals including David John Woods, Sr. who resided at the same house. Woods, Sr. was taken into custody on outstanding Anderson County charges and the death investigation was presented to the grand jury.

They handed down indictments against Woods, Sr. for premeditated murder, felony murder, robbery and theft of property. His bond was initially set at half million dollars by Judge Jeff Wicks. Woods, Sr. is scheduled to be arraigned in court Monday, February 22, 2021.
