WRONG TAGS LEADS TO METH BUST ON WEST AVE

On March 18, 2025 Keith Sadula conducted a traffic stop on a white Jeep Compass on West Ave for the vehicle having an expired registration and for speeding 56 in a 40 mph zone on 70 North. Sadula observed that there was a 2025 sticker on it but the tag number on the sticker did not match the tag that was on the vehicle.

He made contact with the driver who stated that he thought it was a 45 mph zone. The driver stated that he just bought the vehicle from his dad and did not know the 2025 sticker was on the tag. The officer also identified the front seat passenger as Rachel Corum and the backseat passenger as Donnie Rector Jr.

While speaking to the driver, he stated that he did not want Officer Sadula to search the vehicle due to not having any probable cause. Sadula went to the passenger side of the vehicle and asked Corum, the front seat passenger, if she had anything illegal on her to which she stated that she had a rig which is commonly known as a needle that is used for the use of narcotics in her purse. The back seat passenger, Rector, stated that there was a needle in the backseat cup holder.

A probable cause search was conducted of Rector’s person. While searching him, the officer felt a baggie inside of his pants in his crotch area. When the officer told Rector to be honest, he told the officer that he had under a gram of methamphetamine in his pants and that he would get it out.

He began to reach into his pants but appeared that he was attempting to possibly destroy evidence. Lt. Lester grabbed his arm to which he then pulled out a clear Ziploc style baggie. The baggie contained three smaller clear baggies that were tied in a knot.

One of the clear baggies contained a crystalline substance in it that is believed to be methamphetamine. The other two clear baggies contained a gray substance believed to be fentanyl/ heroin. The approximate weight of the crystalline substance was 6.86 grams believed to be methamphetamine. The approximate weight of the gray substance was 5.97 grams believed to be fentanyl/heroin.

Rector said that he got the narcotics in Knoxville. He also stated that his phone would show that he had bought narcotics. Mr. Rector also had $10,532 on him with different denominations.

Officer Sadula said that in his training and experience, individuals who carry that amount of cash with different denominations are related to the purchasing and selling of narcotics and it is known that individuals who are involved with that amount of narcotics use their cellphone to facilitate illegal narcotic sales.

The officer seized Rector’s blue touchscreen Samsung cellphone and placed it into airplane mode.

The cellphone was placed into the Crossville Police Department evidence. In the officer’s training and experience, individuals involved in criminal activity often store information related to the crime on their cellular phones, communicate with other co-conspirators over text message, calls, and third-party applications, and often have images and videos related to the crime that is being committed.

Officer Sadula also said that he knew that the weights were not known for personal use and knew that they were used in the possession with intent to man, sell, and del narcotics.

Rector and Corum would be charged with Manufacture/Delivery/Selling or possession of meth and Manufacture/Delivery/Selling of a controlled substance.

It isn’t stated in the report if the driver was charged with anything, so his name has been omitted.
