WRONG WAY DRIVER ON I-40 CHARGED WITH DUI
A multi-vehicle accident in Cumberland County just after noon today resulted in westbound lanes of Interstate 40 being closed for hours. The Tennessee Highway Patrol says the accident took place at the 316 mile marker when a 1997 Dodge pickup driven by 43-year-old Dillon F. Smith of Crossville was traveling east in the westbound lane and collided head on with a 2017 International tractor-trailer operated by 50-year-old Kurt D. Craig of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Smiths truck spun around from the impact and was hit by another tractor-trailer driven by 27-year-old Vladimir Zmeu of Pensacola, Florida. Zmeu hit the brakes and collided with Craig’s tractor-trailer. Smith was charged with DUI and driving the wrong way on an interstate. As of 3 p.m. this afternoon, one lane of travel was opened after both westbound lanes were closed as a result of the accident.
