Early Sunday morning, Cumberland County deputies were called to Isoline Baptist Church on Highway 127 North regarding a suspicious car in the parking lot. The unoccupied vehicle, missing its license plate, had been backed into a parking spot. Dispatch advised the vehicle had been stolen from Texas.

Deputies encountered a man and woman walking south on 127 from near the church.

The man, 38-year-old Jason Lee Jackson of Crossville, provided a false name, date of birth and Social Security number. He also could not keep his story straight. First Jackson told deputies they’d been walking from Jamestown, were cold and got into the car to stay warm. Then he said they’d just arrived in town from Texas and were headed to his father’s house in Jamestown. Then Jackson told deputies the car’s transmission “messed up” so they were walking into town in search of transmission fluid.

The woman, 23-year-old Eileen Lillian Rodriguez of Victoria, Texas, provided factual identification. But she stated she’d just gotten off the bus from Texas and didn’t know anything about the car.

Rodriguez had a backpack and claimed to have a small amount of pot in it. A search turned up a small plastic baggie containing a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana.

Jackson then stated they both had personal property in the vehicle, and said a friend gave him the car in Texas.

A search of the car netted a Mason jar containing a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana, several needles and baggies with residue that field tested positive for meth.

Jackson claimed ownership of the Mason jar; Rodriguez claimed ownership of the backpack and all its contents.

Jackson was charged with theft, criminal impersonation and simple possession.

Rodriguez was charged with theft, simple possession and simple possession of a Schedule II drug.

Both were held pending bond hearing on Thursday.
