$18 MILLION IN FEDERAL GRANT FUNDS AWARDED TO AREA LAW ENFORCEMENT TO SUPPORT HIGHWAY SAFETY EFFORTS

The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security (TDOSHS) joins the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) to announce the law enforcement agencies and partners across Tennessee who will be awarded federal grant funds to support local highway safety initiatives. Approximately 400 grants exceeding $18 million will be distributed statewide from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) through the THSO for the 2017-2018 Federal Fiscal Year (FFY).

The following area agencies were selected for grants. They are listed by name of agency, type of grant and the amount:

Crossville Police Department – 2018 Alcohol Enforcement Grant – $35,000

Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department – DUI enforcement – $35,000

Fentress County Sheriff’s Department – Alcohol Impaired Driving Enforcement – $10,900

Dayton Fire DepartmentDisabled Motorist Enhanced Safety and Crash Prevention Emergency Medical Services – $3,002

Dayton Police DepartmentHigh Visibility Enforcement Police Traffic Services – $5,300

Graysville Police DepartmentHigh Visibility Enforcement Police Traffic Services – $3,000

Harriman Police Department – High visibility enforcement – $5,000

Kingston Police Department – High visibility enforcement – $5,000

Lenoir City Police Department – Police Traffic Services Grant – $35,000

Livingston Police Department – High visibility enforcement – $5,000

Loudon County Sheriff’s Department – High visibility enforcement – $5,000

McMinn County Sheriff’s Department – Alcohol saturation patrols and checkpoints – $20,000

Meigs County Sheriff’s Department – DUI enforcement – $13,000

Monroe County Sheriff’s Department – High visibility enforcement – $5,000

Monterey Police Department – Alcohol saturation/checkpoints – $12,000

Morgan County Sheriff’s Department – High visibility enforcement – $5,000

Oliver Springs Police Department – High visibility enforcement – $5,000

Overton County Sheriff’s Department – Saturation Safety – $15,000

Every year, traffic safety advocates, non-profit organizations, emergency response personnel, law enforcement, District Attorneys’ offices, and other state agencies across Tennessee seek funding through grant applications offered by the THSO. Applicants who meet the required data-driven criteria and highway safety standards are awarded grant funds to support the THSO’s mission to reduce traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities.
