OFFICIALS BREAK GROUND ON NEW CUMBERLAND COUNTY SHOOTING SPORTS PARK AMID PROTESTS

State and local officials joined together in Cumberland County Monday morning to break ground for the new Shooting Sports Park. The facility will be located off Albert Frye Rd. which is just off Peavine Rd. The park was a joint venture between the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, the City of Crossville and the county. Both County Mayor Kenneth Carey and Crossville Mayor James Mayberry greeted the assemblage to the special ground-breaking ceremony which also included Chamber of Commerce, and TWRA officials. The shooting sports park has been a controversial subject and that controversy continued as residents of Albert Frye Rd. and the surrounding area picketed the entrance to the park. They say that the noise, traffic and park in-general will ruin their “quality of life”, and that they are exercising their Constitutional right of protest. When completed, the $2.2 million dollar park will be open for shooting practice for sports, youth and for law enforcement training. Archery practice will also be included at the park.
