Crossville officers were dispatched to Jamestown Court Wednesday in reference to a woman who accidentally shot herself.

When they arrived, the woman who was identified as Johanna Proffitt, stated she didn’t know her husband’s gun was in her purse. She went to remove it and it ended up going off. She had shot herself in the left hand at her index finger knuckle. There was also a bullet hole in the driver’s side door.

Johanna was transported by EMS to Cumberland Medical Center and flown to UT Knoxville.
