WOMAN MISTAKENLY LEAVES BEHIND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AT CROSSVILLE STORE

A woman came to the Crossville Police Department Wednesday to make a report that her billfold had been stolen. She stated she was at the Dollar General Market on Miller Ave when she believed she accidentally left her wallet in the shopping cart as she left the store.

The victim stated once she was home, she realized she left the billfold behind and returned to the store where she spoke with the manager. While reviewing security footage, it showed a couple locating the billfold and leaving the store with it. The victim stated that not only were there bank and credit cards in her wallet but also $4,000 of cash inside that she had been saving up to use for a vacation. With a large amount of cash stolen, detectives were notified and attempted to identify the couple from surveillance.

Around 4 PM that evening, the victim stated that her billfold was returned to her by the female in the video footage from the store. She further stated that only $2,800 was in her wallet and that she had kept some money at home. The full amount of $2,800 was returned to the victim who stated she gave the woman who returned it $100 as a reward.

The victim took the rest of the cash to the bank for safekeeping.
