A post from the Roane County Sheriff’s Office reads: “A Roane County resident reported today that a person called her claiming to be from her bank, and even provided her account number to her. The caller even sent her a verification code via text. When she later contacted her bank she was informed that they did not call her and they started the process of securing her account. Scammers are getting more sophisticated folks. Become familiar with the legitimate ways in which your financial institution will contact you, and if the person contacting you deviates in any way from their method, hang up immediately.”
