On March 25, 2025, Deputy Joshua Matthews of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office met with a woman in the Justice Center lobby about a fraudulent charge on her bank account. She reported that her bank, Navy Federal Credit Union, had flagged a $189.60 charge and contacted her to confirm it, revealing it as unauthorized.

The bank had already intervened to block the charge and secure her account against further fraud. At the bank’s request, she filed a report with Deputy Matthews to document the incident.
