TWO REPORTS OF THEFT IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

On June 12, 2025, at the Cumberland County Justice Center in Crossville, a local man reported the theft of his Android cell phone, valued at $600, which he had left on a hat stand outside the court offices. Investigator Jon Wirey responded and discovered the phone concealed in a coat on the rack, belonging to Jason Curtis Kilby. Initially, Kilby claimed the phone was his, but after attempting to flee the courthouse with it and admitting it was not his when confronted, he was arrested on-site for theft (up to $1,000). The phone was recovered and returned to the owner, and Kilby was charged with a court date set for July 7, 2025.

In a separate incident on July 18, 2025, a local man reported the theft of a Beretta 9mm handgun (valued at $700) and a soft foam padded pistol case (valued at $30) from his unlocked truck on Hebbertsburg Rd in Crab Orchard between July 16 and 17, 2025. Deputy Jacob Brink investigated, but the owner could not provide the firearm’s serial number, and no suspects or witnesses were identified, leaving the case active.
