BLAIR VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDS TO SHADY DRIVE FIRE

Earlier today, the Blair Volunteer Fire Department, assisted by mutual aid agencies, responded to a woods fire in the area of 216 Shady Drive. Firefighters successfully prevented the blaze from reaching nearby structures, but the large amount of leaves and debris around homes posed a significant risk.
Department officials emphasized that, although current conditions are not extremely dry, they are still dry enough for leaves, brush, and debris to ignite quickly. They urged residents to clear leaves and debris away from homes and roofs to reduce fire hazards, noting that a yard fire earlier in the day could have rapidly spread to multiple homes due to accumulated debris.
Officials also reminded the public that permits are still required for any outdoor burning. The department expressed gratitude to the Roane County (TN) Office of Emergency Services & Homeland for their assistance and reiterated the importance of proactive leaf and debris removal around structures.
