18-YEAR-OLD ARRESTED AFTER ALLEGEDLY POINTING HANDGUN AT GROUP IN CENTENNIAL PARK

According to a report by the Crossville Police Department, on March 9, 2026, at approximately 7:55 p.m., Crossville Police Department officers responded to Centennial Park in Crossville, Tennessee, regarding reports of a man pointing a handgun at people near the basketball courts. Upon arrival, the suspect had fled the scene in a silver Toyota Camry.

Multiple victims reported that a verbal altercation escalated after a basketball game, leading to the suspect displaying and pointing a firearm at several individuals, including while they attempted to leave the area. One victim expressed fear for their life and family’s safety, noting the suspect’s refusal to lower the weapon despite pleas. Other victims described pushing, shoving, and the suspect racking the pistol during the confrontation, though some were unwilling to prosecute. Uninvolved witnesses corroborated these accounts, describing the suspect brandishing the gun and making threats before departing as a passenger in the vehicle driven by a female.

Officers developed a description of the suspect and vehicle, including the license plate, and located the Camry in the Parkside Place area. A consent search of the vehicle recovered items but no firearm. The driver provided a statement denying the suspect displayed a gun. A subsequent search for the suspect led officers to Lee Drive, where Rylan Norton (age 18) was located and interviewed after being Mirandized. Norton denied displaying or possessing a firearm during the incident, claiming only a verbal argument and physical pushing occurred. He consented to a search of his bedroom, where officers recovered .40 caliber ammunition (which he had mentioned beforehand).

Later that night, a black Taurus G2C 9mm handgun was located discarded in the wood line near Parkside Place. Video footage from a nearby business showed a male matching Norton’s description arriving in the silver Camry shortly after the incident, making tossing motions into the woods on two occasions before leaving.

The firearm’s serial number matched one previously associated with Norton in an earlier law enforcement contact. Based on victim and witness statements, Norton was arrested on scene for aggravated assault, transported to the Cumberland County Justice Center, and served with a warrant. The case was cleared by arrest, with evidence including the firearm, ammunition, a magazine, ammunition, and video footage submitted.

Norton was held on a $10,000 bond, with a court date set for March 16, 2026.

The charges and allegations referenced in this release are merely accusations of criminal conduct and not evidence. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and convicted through due process of law.
