ROANE COUNTY MAN SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS FOR FATAL DRUNK DRIVING WRONG-WAY CRASH

According to online public court records, on April 14th, a sentencing hearing concluded for 47-year-old Daniel Lee Miller of Roane County, following a fatal wrong-way collision on I-40 in June 2024. Miller had previously pleaded guilty on March 10 to vehicular homicide by intoxication, receiving a nine-year sentence for the crash that claimed the life of 61-year-old Helene McGarvey.
The incident occurred near the Westel exit when Miller, whose blood alcohol content was later measured at .084%, entered the westbound lanes traveling east and struck McGarvey’s Harley Davidson motorcycle. McGarvey was tragically pronounced dead at the scene, and the recent hearing allowed her family members to provide emotional impact statements for the official court record.

Court officials say 47-year-old Daniel Lee Miller of Roane County entered a plea of guilty in Cumberland County Criminal Court to vehicular homicide by intoxication.
The judge sentenced Miller to 9 years in prison to be served at 100 percent. He was also stripped of his driving privileges for a decade.
The indictment against Miller states he drove a Ford F150 truck onto I-40 around the Westel area in June 2024, heading east in a westbound lane. He collided head-on with an oncoming motorcyclist, 61-year-old Helene McGarvey of Andersonville, Tennessee. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Officers say Miller was under the influence at the time of the crash.
