CUMBERLAND DEPUTY HONORED FOR AIDING WOMAN IN MOTORCYCLE CRASH
On the evening of April 17, 2026, Cumberland County Correctional Officer Hunter Kirkland demonstrated exceptional courage and selflessness while traveling home from work. Upon coming across a chaotic scene where a woman had been involved in a traumatic motorcycle crash, Officer Kirkland immediately stopped to render aid.
Despite the imminent danger of oncoming vehicles speeding past—including several close calls that nearly resulted in him being struck—he refused to leave the victim’s side, continuously offering comfort and reassurance. Thanks in part to his quick, compassionate actions, the victim has since been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office recognized Officer Kirkland for his dedicated and professional service, commending him for truly making a difference in the community when it mattered most.
