MAN TO APPEAR IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY COURT ON THURSDAY FOR TRUCK RAMMING INCIDENT

The Cumberland County General Sessions Court criminal court docket for Thursday, June 18th, includes two cases for a review hearing involving defendant David Lewis Barnes, who is being represented by attorney Howard Upchurch. Both cases stem from a domestic-related aggravated assault incident filed on August 25, 2025, following an arrest by Deputy Zach Early of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the affidavit of complaint, deputies responded on August 24, 2025, to the Sawmill Market on Highway 68, where family members reported Barnes. A member of the family provided deputies with video evidence showing Barnes intentionally driving a silver Ford F-150 into their red Dodge Caliber, pushing the vehicle into the roadway on Short Sawmill Road.

When deputies questioned Barnes at the residence, he admitted to ramming the vehicle to force them off his property, defending his actions as “the hillbilly way to handle things” rather than calling law enforcement. Deputies noted matching damage on Barnes’s truck and skid marks in the muddy front yard, leading to Barnes being taken into custody and booked at the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
