CONVICTED FELON FACING WEAPON AND DRUG CHARGES IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY COURT

A routine traffic stop on a snowy December day has led to multiple criminal charges for a woman scheduled to appear in the Cumberland County General Sessions Court tomorrow, June 25, 2026.

Iasia Shanee Aberasturi is facing charges of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, alongside two counts of simple possession/casual exchange, following an arrest late last year.

According to court documents, the charges stem from an incident on December 2, 2025, when Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Donald Seiber pulled Aberasturi over for traveling 78 mph in a 70 mph zone during hazardous, snowy weather conditions.

During the traffic stop, Aberasturi consented to a search of her vehicle. Inside her purse, Trooper Seiber discovered a 9mm handgun equipped with a loaded magazine. A further search of the driver’s belongings uncovered a THC package containing 21 MDMA (Ecstasy) pills, as well as a separate pill bottle containing 14 and a half Amphetamine pills.

Authorities confirmed that Aberasturi is a convicted felon, making the firearm possession illegal under Tennessee state law. After being read her Miranda rights, Aberasturi reportedly admitted to knowingly possessing both the handgun and the Ecstasy pills.

Aberasturi is represented by attorney Howard Upchurch.
