ROANE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE ISSUES URGENT WARNING OVER JURY DUTY PHONE SCAM

The Roane County Sheriff’s Office is warning local residents to be on high alert following reports of a aggressive phone scam circulating in the area.

According to authorities, scammers are calling residents and impersonating Roane County Sheriff’s Deputies. The fraudsters claim that the victim has missed a subpoena for jury duty and demand immediate payment of a “fine” to avoid arrest.

The Sheriff’s Office issued a strict directive to the community: DO NOT send any money. Officials emphasize that this is 100% a scam. Law enforcement and government agencies will never call residents to demand payment, wire transfers, or gift cards over the phone to resolve a legal matter or warrant.

If you receive one of these fraudulent calls, hang up immediately and report it to the Roane County Sheriff’s Office.
