CROSSVILLE WOMAN CONFRONTS UNKNOWN INTRUDER IN GARAGE; SUSPECT FLEES ON FOOT AFTER MOTORCYCLE CRASH

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a late-night criminal trespassing and attempted burglary incident after a local resident confronted an unknown man inside her garage on Tuesday night.

According to official incident reports, Deputy Aidyn Smith was dispatched to a residence at Wattenbarger Road around 9:50 PM on June 30, 2026, following a report of a possible burglary in progress.

The homeowner, a 54-year-old woman, told deputies she was alerted to the intruder when her dog began making noise. Upon opening the door to her garage, which had been left open, she discovered a stranger rummaging through a tool backpack.

“I yelled at him saying, ‘What the **** are you doing in my garage,'” the woman stated in her official report. “He replied, ‘I need a jump.’ I yelled, ‘Get out of my garage, I will shoot you.'”

After she repeated her threat, the intruder slowly exited the garage. She then got into her vehicle, contacted her husband—who immediately called 911—and briefly pursued the suspect to chase him off the property. Before the suspect vanished, she managed to snap a photograph of him, capturing the back of a larger white male wearing a neon green shirt and camouflage pants.

Investigators tracking the suspect discovered an older, black Suzuki motorcycle abandoned on the side of nearby Potato Farm Road. The motorcycle had sustained disabling damage from an apparent crash.

A computer check by dispatch revealed that both the motorcycle’s license tag and VIN were not on file. The vehicle was subsequently removed from the scene by Young’s Towing.

Sheriff’s deputies flooded the surrounding area on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning to search for the individual, but the suspect has not yet been located.

Property owners noted there was no functioning security camera footage available at the time of the incident, and it remains unclear if any items were successfully stolen from the garage. The suspect is described as a white male, last seen on foot in the area of Wattenbarger Road and Potato Farm Road.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office has approved the incident report for documentation and is continuing to look into the matter. Anyone with information regarding the identity of the individual or the unregistered black Suzuki motorcycle is encouraged to contact local authorities.
