ROANE COUNTY DEPUTY SERIOUSLY INJURED IN TWO-VEHICLE HIGHWAY 58 CRASH

A Roane County Sheriff’s Office deputy was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries on Friday following a two-vehicle collision on Highway 58.

The crash occurred shortly before noon near the Roane County-Meigs County line. According to Roane County Sheriff-Elect Tim Phillips, the deputy was transporting a prisoner at the time of the impact.

Emergency responders from multiple agencies rushed to the scene, where crews had to extricate the deputy from the heavily damaged patrol vehicle. A medical helicopter subsequently flew the deputy to the University of Tennessee (UT) Medical Center for treatment.

A second individual involved in the crash was taken by ambulance to Tennova Turkey Creek Medical Center. Authorities have not yet released the condition or identity of that individual, nor have they provided updates on the condition of the prisoner who was inside the cruiser.

The incident temporarily disrupted traffic on Highway 58 as emergency teams worked the scene. The Tennessee Highway Patrol has taken over the investigation to determine the cause of the collision.
