RUNAWAY RIG: SEMI-TRUCK SMASHES INTO MAIN STREET TRAFFIC LIGHTS

A chaotic scene on Main Street ended with a swift display of community action and city efficiency on Thursday morning, July 2, 2026.

Just before 9:00 AM, a large commercial truck traveling north from Highway 70 made a sharp, improper turn onto Main Street, jumping the curb and leaving visible tire tracks across the sidewalk.

The vehicle struck and heavily damaged the base of a major traffic light support pole before continuing forward and completely taking down a nearby street light pole.

According to witnesses at the scene, the driver did not immediately pull over after the collision. However, an alert bystander took action, chasing down the semi-truck and successfully forcing the driver to stop further down the road.

While the accident caused significant cosmetic and structural damage to the intersection’s infrastructure, local disruptions were kept to an absolute minimum.

Thanks to the rapid deployment of the City Maintenance crew, workers arrived on-site within minutes of the initial report to clear the debris, secure the downed electrical poles, and restore order to the busy intersection.

No injuries have been reported, and local authorities are currently investigating the incident.
