A devastating Thursday night crash involving an all-terrain vehicle and an SUV in Fentress County has left one child dead and three others hospitalized with severe injuries.

According to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), the collision occurred at approximately 8:40 p.m. on Banner Springs Road. A 1972 Chevrolet Blazer traveling southbound struck the rear of a Suzuki ATV. Following the impact, the driver of the Chevrolet Blazer came to a stop near the intersection of George Young Road and was uninjured.

State troopers confirmed that four juveniles were riding on the single ATV at the time of the crash. One passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while the remaining three young riders suffered critical injuries.

First Church in Cookeville, Tennessee, later identified the victims as siblings from the same family. The church confirmed that the youngest son, Nicolas, died from his injuries. His three siblings—Elizabeth, Janie, and Walter Jr.—were transported to medical facilities in Knoxville, where they are currently undergoing treatment for severe injuries.

“Our hearts are broken… We pray for God’s peace that surpasses understanding, His strength for each moment, healing for those who are injured, and comfort for every heart that is grieving,” First Church shared in a statement asking the community for prayers and support for the family.

The THP noted that the driver of the ATV has not yet been officially identified. The exact ages of the children have not been publicly disclosed as state troopers continue their investigation into the crash.
