BRANDY SHUMATE ARRESTED FOR SHOPLIFTING NEARLY $440 IN MERCHANDISE FROM CROSSVILLE WALMART
A local woman was taken into custody last week following a shoplifting incident at the Walmart located on Obed Plaza.
On August 20, 2026, at approximately 3:54 PM, Crossville Police Department units responded to the store at 168 Obed Plaza. Sgt. Henson and Officer Parvin arrived on the scene at around 4:03 PM, joining Ptl. Johns and a store employee.
According to police reports, loss prevention personnel observed 29-year-old Brandy Shumate concealing hygiene products in her purse. While being followed by store staff, Shumate returned the hygiene items and proceeded to fill a shopping cart with 49 items. Investigators noted that Shumate scanned and paid for only $24.07 worth of merchandise at checkout, bypassing all points of sale with the remaining unpaid items before being stopped by the store employee.
When questioned by law enforcement, Shumate stated she took the items because her family needed food.
The total value of the unpurchased merchandise was assessed at $439.32. Walmart staff elected to file official charges and requested that Shumate be banned from the property.
Officers Parvin and Henson arrested Shumate and transported her to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, where she was released to correctional staff. McBluff subsequently arrived at the jail to complete a warrant for theft of merchandise. Shumate has been formally charged for Theft of Property involving merchandise.
