MORGAN COUNTY BOMB THREAT AND HOSTAGE SITUATION CONFIRMED AS PRISON HOAX

Law enforcement agencies responded to a high-stress emergency on August 27, 2026, after Morgan County E911 received a call at approximately 8:00 PM reporting a bomb threat and possible hostage situation across multiple locations, including Wartburg Central High School.
Following a thorough investigation, officers on the scene confirmed that all targeted locations were secure and safe. Sheriff’s detectives collaborated closely with Morgan County Correctional Complex investigators and Warden Shawn Phillips to trace the origin of the alert.
Authorities determined that the emergency call was a deliberate hoax executed by an inmate from inside the prison. A primary suspect has been identified, and multiple criminal charges are currently pending.
Local officials expressed gratitude to all participating agencies for their swift and coordinated response, highlighting the assistance of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit, Wartburg Police Department, and Tennessee Homeland Security Office.
